Living Lake Erie Fishing!

Lake Erie is an extraordinary wonderful place to live and to have this world class fishery in your backyard surely adds excitement to your daily life! As we start booking fishing charters on Lake Erie for this upcoming year I have had time on my hands since the artic front has shut down our roads, schools and currently at a level 3 for our county. The area right now is extremely busy with the great amounts of Lake Erie Ice fisherman that have been catching nice limits of fresh Walleye through 10 inches of ice on the lake. East Harbor State Park fishermen are hammering the Blue Gill's and Bass. This past weekend we seen folks from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana and all were really enjoying their adventureson Lake Erie. Snow mobiles have been cruising the farmers’ fields and hitting the local creeks to hit their favorite watering holes. Trappers are catching muskrats, raccoons, and if there lucky a fox or too. If you’re a sportsman Ottawa County OH is a wonderful place to live and work.

Ohio's Lake Erie Island region is the most visited place in the state of Ohio. Lake Erie has 36 Island's, and 23 of them make up the Bass Islands north of Sandusky, Ohio. Canada's Pelee Island and Ohio's Kelleys, South Bass and Middle Bass island have long been favorite summer destinations. Today it's an easy jaunt on a high speed ferry to reach the Lake Erie Islands from Port Clinton OH. There are also landing strips on each Island if you have your own airplane. The primary means of transportation is the Miller Ferry Service off the tip of Catawba Island and you can take your car, boat and family on a fun day trip or spend the night in the numerous Bed-in-Breakfast's or Hotel's scattered around the Islands. Some of my fondest memories were flying our family friends airplane to Put-In-Bay, going to Heineman's Winery and going on the tours of the awe-inspiring Crystal Cave, this is where they hide the booze during Prohibition and the world's largest recorded geode. The golf cart rides around Put-In-Bay and the tours of Perry's Monument were also part of our favorite adventures.

Heading over to the Canadian side 25 miles into Lake Erie may be the most remote and unspoiled location in our entire region. This is home to Canada's farm fresh produce and wine country. Leamington has a wonderful marina and great places to eat and drink or spend the night. The Point Pelee National Park is recognized as one of the most special places on earth including Long Point Provincial Park. These lands attract migratory birds and its home to many rare species of plants. This area is also the home breading grounds for the Monarch butterflies. We have spent many years going to Pelee Island, Canada and I can tell you it's like going back 50 years in time and it's one of the most tranquil places on earth. The East side of Pelee Island from the Lighthouse to the southern tip is all soft clean sand and unpopulated. If you want to really explore on the Canada side head East to Port Colborne and ride horses on the beach. In Wainfleet Ontario the HorsePlay stables offer horseback rides through the tree-lined Trans Canada Trail to the Lake Erie shoreline, where you can take the horses for a splash in the water.

So if you’re looking for the great escape for a real vacation, close to home, come to Lake Erie. The entire region is a beautiful gem just waiting to be discovered. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
