It's All About the Walleye!

It is still hard to wrap my head around the fact that I have been fishing on Lake Erie for over

30 years now. And let me tell you, the passion has never left. I’ve got to be honest though, the Lake Erie Fishing Charter sure does make it easy to love this pastime! 

With all of this experience, I have learned a thing or two about fish, particularly the walleye. As you may or may not remember, I talked a little bit about the walleye in my last post, but these olive-gold creatures are an impressive fish and I just cannot get enough of them! Out here on Lake Erie, they are biters! It will not make your job easy, but it will surely make it interesting. Actually, in my 30 years I’ve seen more walleye catches here on Lake Erie than I’ve seen anywhere else. 

As we all know, we are in the midst of Spring Turnover, one of the two prime fishing seasons during the year! I am excited to be back at Lake Erie fishing, and I have a great feeling about this year’s walleye prospect! The weather lately has been the perfect weather to sit back and relax on the boat. 

The walleye fish seem to like this weather too because they are excited and they look big! This time last year I saw a guy catch a nearly 16lb. walleye while on my Lake Erie Fishing Charter! 

Another great thing about the walleyes is that they taste great! This time of year is the perfect time to catch a couple of those guys on Lake Erie and bring ‘em home for a nice springtime grill. The walleye is a hot commodity at the lake and it is always a good time at Lake Erie fishing because everyone is out on the boats, and it can be a very social experience! If I have yet to convince you on the greatness of the walleye fish, here are a few fun facts to chew on: 

• Walleyes are clean fish, and have little to no diseases that humans can catch.
• Walleyes are found 20 to 60 feet deep, they almost never go lower than that!
• Walleyes can have a lifespan anywhere from 3-30 years.

Finally, the walleye is a fish that won’t be a difficult catch, but it won’t be a “piece of cake”. Just be sure to bring your A-game!
